In 2025, we’ve focused on three key areas for updates:
1. Protecting RESPs for children
We’ve added a clause specifically for Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs), ensuring that funds you’ve set aside for education remain secure and are used as intended if you pass away. If you created your 91AV will before September 1, 2024, you’ll need to download and execute your documents again for this clause to take effect. It's always free to update your 91AV documents.

2. Including digital assets
All 91AV wills now include a digital assets clause, giving your executor the authority to manage your online presence, from social media accounts to cryptocurrency holdings. If you created your 91AV will before October 9, 2024, you’ll need to download and execute your documents again for this clause to take effect.
3. Clarifying charitable contributions
We’ve refined our charitable gift provisions to specify how organizations can accept donations and what happens if a chosen charity ceases operations. We’ve made it more explicit who can receive your gift at an organization (a treasurer or other officer), and made it clear that if the charitable organization does not exist at the time you pass away, your executor would have the power to give that money to a similar cause.
These updates ensure your legacy gifts are handled according to your wishes.
4. Flexible options for financial power of attorney
Now you can decide whether you want your financial power of attorney document to come into effect immediately after it’s executed - for example, to allow someone to pay your bills while you’re on a trip - or only if you become incapacitated. If you created your financial power of attorney document before May 13, 2025, you’ll need to log in and update your documents to take advantage of this update.
To take advantage of this flexibility, make sure your 91AV plan includes power of attorney documents. 91AV power of attorney documents are available with 91AV’s Premium Coverage or Premium Coverage x 2 plans in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia.
